The coast of the Gargano is one of the most important naturalistic heritage of our country. Its 140 kilometers of coastline, with countless beaches, coves, bays and caves, are some of the most beautiful places to spend a pleasant holiday. The Gargano coast, in fact, offers very narrow bays that end with miniscule beaches now of gravel now of sand, cliffs characterized by caves, stacks, and cliffs. And to embrace the sea, with its 11 thousand hectares of forest, the Umbra Forest is the green lung of the Gargano National Park. To understand the size of the size just think that the largest and most famous beech is called the Colossus of the Forest and reaches 5m in circumference and 40m in height. The older rate, on the other hand, is 700 years old and 18m high.
For centuries the Gargano has been a destination for pilgrims and devotees, attracted first of all by the cave of San Michele Arcangelo and, more recently, by the Sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina and San Giovanni Rotondo. The Promontory has played and plays a central role in the pilgrimages that in the past were undertaken as a penitential practice towards the Holy Land. The Capitanata is a land full of history. As evidence of that medieval past some of the most majestic and well-preserved castles of the Federiciana era are: the Castel Fiorentino of Torremaggiore, the Castle of Lucera and the Castle of Monte Sant'Angelo
Trekking on the Gargano is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the true identity of the promontory. Crossing the paths that wind through it will allow you to come into direct contact with the beautiful scenery, sounds and scents that embellish these lands. While for lovers of diving, the backdrops of the Gargano territory are a real underwater paradise. The depths of the Tremiti, in particular, are a favorite destination for numerous divers to practice diving and snorkeling. Here the Gargano National Park has created 23 underwater trails to allow you to enjoy the wonderful underwater heritage, with its wonderful scenery.
